Church of the Nazarene, Paisley

Construction materials: Stone (sandstone) - Used for walls; Slate - Used for roof;

This church began as the Free St George Church in Weighhouse Close, off New Street in Paisley. A new church was built in Gordon Street, which after the Reunification in 1929 became St George's East Church of Scotland. It later became St Matthew's Church of Scotland. Falling numbers caused the church to close and it was then taken over by the Church of Nazarene. The architect of this church was West D. McLennan, a contemporary of Charles Rennie MacIntosh and this church is said to be one of the most Art Nouveau churches in Scotland. Researched by G. McCrea, compiled by J. Dowling, 24/3/2004.
