There is a suggestion that a chapel was associated with an early tower house or castle on the summmit of Durrideer Hill. The egg-shaped hill rises steeply on all sides and is the prominent feature in the landscape. The location of the chapel is not known and no further information to support this theory has come to light. On the summit of the hill today are the remains of the castle, which was damaged by a large moor fire on the hill in 2006.
