Introduction

Comrie Parish church was built in 1805, replacing the older Tullichettle church.  The tower is much older and is from an earlier church that stood on the site.  It was renamed Comrie Old Parish Church in 1929, following the re-uniting of the Free Church and the Church of Scotland, when the Free church, on Burrel Street became the parish church.

In 1964, the old and new parish churches merged, and the old building was closed. It is now used as a community centre.

Description (exterior)

Comrie Old Parish Church (Former) and Burial Ground

The church is a rectangular building orientated North East to South West, on the South West corner of Drummond Street. A clock tower dominates the South West gable. The main entrance is by the North East gable, with a large arched three-light window above the door. A cross finial is on the North East gable. The walls are built of stone, and harled; the roof is slated, and the building is painted white, including the tower. The building is known locally as the “White Church”.

The windows are arched with wooden Y tracery and the doors are of plain rectangular design set in arches with wooden Y tracery above.

The clock tower, square in the lower courses, has an octagonal conical spire above. There are three clock faces but not on the south west.

The churchyard is no longer in use but is well maintained and is accessed via a ramp from the street which leads to wrought iron gates.

Description (interior)

As the church has been re-designed inside to accommodate its current use, the details of the former church interior are no longer available.
