Description

Kilchoan Old Parish Church

Construction materials: Stone (sandstone) - Used for walls;

Kilchoan Parish Church is now redundant and in a state of ruin. There is no roof and the sandstone rubble walls are under threat from erosion and intrusive vegetation. The building is located on rising ground above the outskirts of the village and contains part of a 12th or 13th century building within its fabric, now sadly eroding away. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument so should be protected from future building plans, etc. The burial ground is still in very occasional use for the interment of those relatives already buried in the graveyard. Researched by G. Borwick, compiled by J. Dowling 4/7/03.
